Joost van der Westhuizen stayed in South African rugby union team Blue Bulls for a decade after he joined in 1993. He played as a scrum half for his entire career and was part of the first ever South African team to win the Rugby World Cup. Joost's aggressiveness brought him 190 points from 89 international caps. He attended University of Pretoria where he obtained his Bachelor of Commerce degree. Joost van der Westhuizen was involved in various controversy including drug use and sexual encounters with other women despite being married. In 2008, reports showed that he suffers from motor neurone disease and was only given between two and five years to live. He has also participated in clinical studies with ALS researchers. Joost van der Westhuizen currently operates his own organizatoin he named J9 Foundation.
